Fate vs Destiny And Free Will

If you are on a Soul’s journey or a Twin Flame journey, often you will think about fate, destiny and “free will.” What does fate, destiny and “free will” really mean, and how it applies in your soul growth and expansion? Does it have a deeper meaning that we are meant to understand, or are we to take it as it may. In these three part series, I will not only teach about the deeper layers of the above and expand on soul contracts and as well as Karma in the following articles thereafter. Because each topic has its own entity, I decided to write in three part series, this topic being the first.

People tend to confuse the meaning between fate and destiny by interchanging both during the events of their lifespan. Firstly, in order to understand them both, you need to understand them individually. You have to understand both aspects separately in order to know how they work together individually. Having said this, the only similarity both have is that it will inevitably occur no matter what happens. Before we begin breaking down in detail what this means, let’s understand first what fate, destiny and “free will” means. They all have a difference of night and day.

Fate also known as kismet in Sanskrit is when a series of events are beyond a person’s control or are influenced by higher forces. Some believe that the higher forces are God, Universe or Higher Self. The term is also based from Greek mythology regarding three goddesses who presided over the birth, life and death of all humans. Each person’s destiny spun by thread of life, measured, and cut by the three Fates Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos.

Fate comes from the Latin word Fatum meaning, “That which has been spoken.” Through ages, fate has been predetermining lives. It is based on a natural order of the Universe, which cannot be altered no matter how hard one tries. Usually fate is associated with a negative connotation. Due to unfortunate events caused in one’s life, most associate it with misfortune of fate for example, “The person met his/her fate.”

Destiny is also known as Bhagya in Sanskrit, which is a set of predetermined events within a person’s life that they take as an active course in shaping. It implies an outcome predetermined by a set of events, which once put into motion, move inexorably forward. With this concept, humans have a hand in some predetermined events to get the ball rolling into its next course. Destiny is associated with more positive connotation deriving from the Latin word destinare meaning, “To determine,” an outcome to its end destination.

Free Will is the power of acting without the constraints of fate with the ability to act at one’s own discretion. The act of “free will” has the power or capacity to choose among alternatives or to act in certain situations independently of natural, social, or divine restraints. A prominent feature of existentialism is the concept of a radical, perpetual, and frequently agonizing freedom of choice. ~ Wikipedia

“Free will” has the ability to choose between different possible courses of action unimpeded. “Free will” is closely linked to the concepts of choosing actions freely to apply when it comes to certain choices, decisions without having any moral responsibility, praise, guilt, sin, and other judgements during a course of a human’s lifespan.

Moirai – Three Goddesses of Fate

Moirai – Three Goddesses of Fate

The Moirai were the three Greek goddesses of fate who individualized fated events of man. They assigned to every person his or her fate during their life as a mortal. Each Goddess played a part.

  • Clotho spun the thread of life on a wheel.
  • Lachesis measured its allotted length of the thread.
  • Atropos cut off time lengths with her shears.

Each of the Fates were assigned to a specific period of time in one’s soul journey. Atropos handled the past, Clotho handled the present and Lachesis handled the future. “The Wheel of Fortune” card in tarot deck was derived from this Greek mythology. It is believed that they decided upon death and rebirth cycles of everything, from the moment the mortal is born, to who whom they are born to, their time of birth, their place of birth, their family members, their life partners, their friends, their death and so forth. Nothing moved without their approval.

Fate is also defined as a path predetermined by our current and past incidents. Fate brings the opportunity in life on how to take responsibility towards the given options. If we ignore our life’s opportunity by leaving it be to the people or circumstances, then the possibility of a favorable fate can be fatal.

Fate carries your karma, soul contracts, death, rebirth, past lives and trauma. All these aspects are strung together and will play in your current life by interchanging around the circumstances as you embark on your soul’s journey (the wheel of life).

Fated events are pre-planned for you before you incarnate, but it is up to you to perceive, understand, and respond accordingly. What this means it that fate can be changed by having a positive outlook and mindset around what has happened already rather than blaming people and the circumstances that played into your fated outcomes.

Fate allows you to change how you perceive it by healing all the above areas. You have the right not to allow it to control your life and affect you anymore. The more you heal here in your soul’s journey, the more you shift your state of being in. You can control how it dictates your life by disallowing lower vibrational feelings such as anger, hate, blame, victim mentality, fear, judgement, shame, guilt and so forth. You get the idea. By hanging on to these emotions, you are preventing your outlook for the new tomorrow.

When we leave our lives up to fate, we are essentially handing over the reins of control to other people and outside circumstances. When you do not put any effort to consciously change your outlook on what has already happened as soul lessons and your soul growth, you are leaving it to fate to decide your destiny. You cannot change your fated events but you can change your perception of fatality by not allowing it to dictate your life anymore.

Red Strings of Fate

Red Strings of Fate

According to the Japanese legend, two people connected by the red thread are destined lovers, regardless of place, time, or circumstances. The magical cord may stretch or tangle, but will never break. The myth is similar to the Western concept of Soulmate or a destined partner. The thread stemming from the heart doesn’t just end at the tip of the finger, it continues in the form of an invisible red string, flowing out of the pinkie finger by intertwining with the red strings of other person in connecting both hearts as one.

Japanese believe that both persons connected this way are bound to meet no matter how far apart they live or how much of their own life circumstances differ through the works of fate itself. When they meet, the encounter is certain to affect both of them. The strings can sometimes stretch and become tangled, which could postpone the fateful meeting but the ties are never broken.

Some may argue that we might not realize just how our lives move in a pre-ordained direction guided by invisible strings that are woven into the fabric of the Universe. The red thread of fate binds and connects us to our soul connection by making it shorter so that we can meet them for our soul journey. As the Japanese would say, “Our World has its share of obstacles, but nothing in it happens by an accident.”

Destiny

Destiny

Destiny meaning meeting at destination point is to become something greater than yourself by beating your own self-mastery. You have the ability to achieve greatness in your life no matter what your fate or circumstances are around it. After all, you are a spiritual being living a human experience. You have the opportunity to become the greatest version of yourself and to become anything you desire. You learn to co-create with God/Universe or your Higher Self by nurturing your soul’s journey through healing. By choosing not to heal, you are leaving things to fate to make your destiny fatal.

Wounded persons who do not want to heal will allow people and circumstances that were fated in their life to control their future, and when one does not choose to overcome those, same repeated cycles and patterns appear of your past into the next course of your soul’s journey. Hence why those who are on a specific soul’s journey who understand this process should not skip healing.

As Divine souls, you choose to co-create with God/Universe or your Higher Self to become a higher consciousness so that you can lift the vibration of the planet. Your outside world is a reflection of your inner self through your subconscious wounds.

Destiny is shaped by how you fulfill your life purpose and dreams. When two people are “destined for each other,” they have been given a notion that the journey is complete. You could say fate brought them together, but that doesn’t give the situation a finality that the word destiny does. One way to know it is destiny is that you cannot argue with the outcome. Fate is what happens, and destiny is where you end up. Destiny is what you essentially create out of fate by experiencing cause of events throughout your life. It is what makes one’s life interesting.

Destiny is a path leading to having a successful life, the culmination of the hard work and effort put forth in one’s lifespan. The known phrase, “He/She was destined for greatness” may only occur once we do not allow outside forces such as people or circumstances to dictate our life by being actively conscious of what we do. You have not designated your life to a force greater than yourself to determine your path and your destination for you.

Free Will

Free Will

Now that you understood in-depth meaning behind fate and destiny, how does “free will” play in this equation? Firstly, let’s get this out of the way that your “free will” only overrides your fate, not your destiny. Fate brings you many opportunities to shift your perception by healing the areas dictating your life, and “free will” determines whether you seize the opportunity or allow making the paradigm shift.

If you are waiting for The Universe to bring you into a better place, you will be waiting an eternity. “Free will” is an inside job.

If you think “free will” can change your fate or destiny, exactly how can you change something that you do not foresee? Until it actually happens, you do not know the unknown no matter how great your psychic abilities are. Your Higher Self, God/Universe knew the chaos it could create by allowing your ego self to lead your life when it is your soul that leads the way. There is a difference between your ego desires and “free will” wanting to control everything. If humans had the ability to control fated circumstances, they would be resurrecting the dead, avoiding the lessons around soul contracts, disregarding their trauma and karma by not healing. Do you think your soul; the highest version of you did not see this coming.

Ask your Higher Self, God/Universe to be your guide and surrender to the outcome vs controlling the fate to obtain an outcome. You must have heard this saying, “Let go and let God.”

The only “free will” you will ever have is the ability to change your perception around life, to voluntarily heal and grow by diminishing everything keeping you stuck in the lower paradigm, whereas your ultimate soul’s goal is to become the highest version of yourself as per your Divine Order. Rest, you cannot play God because your soul will override anything coming out of your ego!

The universe will not live your life for you; it is up to you to control your life by your decisions on how to live it. Fate will not save you. Destiny will not play God. “Free Will” will not control both. To make good decisions, you need to understand the difference between fate, destiny and “free will.” All work simultaneously with each other and individually from its parallel levels. Life is a delicate balance between the three duos. Time you understood it and applied it in your soul’s journey.

I hope this article finds you well. By choosing wise decisions, though you cannot change how fate and destiny maps out your life, you can consciously shift your outlook and goals by exercising your “free will” into becoming the best version of yourself. You can shape and carve your life for it to be everything you wish it to be. If you wish to purchase any of my services, click here. Feel free to share this article if it resonates.
